HPM were engaged as both Engineer to the Contract and Project Manager for the $31.1 million Gisborne Hospital Mental Health Facility. This state-of-the-art development was designed to provide early intervention and preventive care for mental health and addiction, reflecting both the needs of the community and the region’s cultural values. We delivered a high-end private residential development executed over three phases. Phases One and Two, which included the Manager's Lodge and Implement Shedding, were completed in February 2019, with Phase Three completed in 2021. Phase Three involved a 1,000m² dwelling, incorporating a combination of in-situ and precast concrete, structural steel, and the latest servicing technologies, all finished to a premium standard. A distinctive large timber wave ceiling spans a significant portion of the house, making it one of the most unique high-end homes in New Zealand. HPM managed the transformation of a 750 sqm heritage building that was previously used as a restaurant on the ground floor with an under-utilised function room upstairs. Having formerly been a nightclub, the building featured a large internal void where customers could look down from the second floor to the dancefloor below. The project required a change of use, involving the void being filled to convert the second floor into high-end architectural apartments. We oversaw this process from concept through to construction, which included reconfiguring the downstairs restaurant and adding a courtyard.
