Hawkes Bay Regional Sports Park was constructed via a comprehensive phased development, the overall goal of this development was to enhance the athletic performance and community well-being of Hawkes Bay and wider regional area. As the client-side project manager and engineer, HPM played a pivotal role in orchestrating the design, tender, and construction phases of various projects within the complex.
- Stage One – High-Performance Sport and Wellness Centre: Completed in May 2019, Stage One marked the
inauguration of the $80 million endeavour. The 2800sqm facility boasted state-of-the-art amenities including a strength
and conditioning gym, running track, pole vault, long jump area, and an on-site medical facility. Stage One set the foundation
for subsequent expansions and developments.
- Stage One (b) Expansion and EIT Institute of Sport Hostel: Continuing the momentum to Stage One, the construction of the EIT Institute of Sport Hostel, further enriched the sporting infrastructure within the park.
- Hawkes Bay Regional Aquatic Centre: August 2022 marked the completion of the crown jewel of the project, The Hawkes Bay Regional Aquatic Centre. This aquatic marvel featured a 50m Olympic-sized pool and a 25m learn-to-swim pool. Designed to accommodate training, competitions, and community events, the Aquatic Centre emerged as a hub of aquatic sports and recreation.
- Hawkes Bay Regional Sports – Cricket and Boxing Centre: In tandem with the park’s aquatic expansion, HPM spearheaded the design-build initiative for the Indoor Cricket and Boxing Facility. This 2000m² facility, completed in October 2022, provided a dedicated space for indoor cricket lanes and a state-of-the-art boxing facility. Its integration within the broader sports park necessitated meticulous coordination with existing services and ongoing community events to ensure seamless execution and safety.
Through meticulous planning and execution, the integrated development of the Hawkes Bay Regional Sports Park has not only elevated athletic prowess but also fostered community engagement and well-being, leaving an enduring legacy for generations to come.
